Issues Treated

About my Practice

My desire to provide hope and relief to adults, adolescents and children who struggle with emotional issues has guided my practice for over 30 years.

Adults

Whether your difficulties lie in relationships or work, whether you feel depressed, anxious or unfulfilled, or are suffering with other serious symptoms which affect your well-being, psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis offer the opportunity to make profound and sustainable changes.  I provide a safe, confidential space where painful, confusing feelings and anxieties can emerge and new solutions can be found through our collaborative efforts.

We'll work to help you understand and change patterns, which may be be out of your awareness, that contribute to unsatisfying relationships and experiences.  My work is different with each person, attuned to your individual needs, personality and circumstances.  I believe that the most significant elements in effective therapy are the working relationship we establish together and your motivation to learn about yourself.

Children and Adolescents

In child and adolescent therapy, I help patients resume the path of normal development, which has been disrupted by internal emotional pressures or external circumstances. In addition to my work with school age children and adolescents both in residential and outpatient settings, I have extensive training in play therapy, which allows me to help young children who cannot represent their difficulties in words, as well as children with limited verbal ability. My work encompasses the full spectrum of childhood difficulties, and my approach always includes a focus on the parent/child relationship and incorporates help for parents and families.

Eating Disorders

I have expertise in the treatment of eating disorders and work collaboratively with physicians and nutritionists to provide comprehensive care to adults, adolescents and children with anorexia, bulimia, bingeing and body image issues.  As Co-director of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis Eating Disorder Resource Center, I also provide supervision and consultation to therapists who deal with this population.

If you would like to talk about whether my approach would be helpful to you, please feel free to call to schedule an initial consultation.
