About My Practice
I have been in private practice for thirty years. I use psychodynamic psychotherapy to treat individuals and couples as well as intensive psychoanalysis for individuals seeking deep change. I focus on each individual and their unique challenge. I facilitate change by understanding each person's life history and psychological make-up to create a personal treatment plan.
Life can be very challenging. We all have difficult times in our relationships, in our work, and with ourselves. Old issues can reappear during adult transitions. I offer a warm and professional relationship to assist in the change process. I like to be practical, including a focus on behavior, as well as understanding the deeper meaning to problems.
Experience & Training
- Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training (3 years)
- Adult Psychoanalytic Training (5 years) at San Diego Psychoanalytic Society and Institute-Clinical Emphasis
Over my thirty years in practice, I have studied and dealt with special problems: people from chemically dependent/dysfunctional families (ACA; Co-dependency), eating disorders, sexual abuse, grief, chemical dependency, panic disorder, anxiety, depression, life transitions, creativity blocks, and more.
I am experienced working with people from different sexual orientations. I understand the many conflicts involved in these matters and try to facilitate an adaptation in your culture, family, and relationships. I also am experienced with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and focus on your transition that includes working out the conflicts towards a melding of both old and new cultures.
I love psychoanalytic thought and enjoy bringing about change. I write about different topics and present nationally and internally at conferences. I have a special interest in envy as it appears in relationships and clinical practice.
I take insurance, but advise that payment for mental health treatment is increasingly more restricted. I adjust my fee and try to be considerate when setting up a longer-term plan for change.
