Issues Treated
About My Practice
You may feel you understand yourself already yet haven’t been able to make the changes you wish you could. Or you may have tried therapy before and found that you didn't get the results that you wanted. Our relationships with ourselves and others are complex but often respond well when we find the right therapist with whom to explore our inner dynamics.
I bring over 25 years of experience and extensive training to gently help you get underneath your issues - whether anxiety, interpersonal problems, self-esteem or any of a wide range of emotional difficulties that I treat. As a psychoanalyst, I'm also skilled at helping you resolve these issues so that you can feel more successful and satisfied, both personally and professionally. Whether you see me individually or as a couple, you'll receive the benefit of my training and experience.
I am a careful listener who attends closely to what you have to tell me. I strive to create a warm relationship where we can develop a meaningful and helpful understanding of your difficulties and concerns so that you can move forward in life in the ways that you're seeking. I would be glad to speak with you about your concerns and to see if we could get a sense if we might be a good "match" to work together.
Couples Therapy
Relationships are complicated! I've helped many couples who have been interested in becoming happier and more effective in their relationship. It's not unusual to reach bumps in the road as you progress in your lives together. When we are in session, I'll talk with each of you to find out about you each as individuals including your history and emotional strengths as well as challenges. As well, I'll learn what is working and what is not working for both of you in your relationship. I routinely help couples with issues related to communication, conflict, jealousy , commitment amd parenting. When working with me, couples find that I can help them understand themselves and each other more effectively. This allows them to grow into healthier, more functional and loving partnerships.
Experience & Training
I have been licensed since 1985 and have been working actively since that time. My training has included a 5-year post-graduate training program in psychoanalysis. I undertook this additional training to enable me to develop the ability to work more deeply with my patients.
Location
My main office is located just off Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. I also have a satellite office in Mill Valley, close to the town center.
