ABOUT MY PRACTICE & TRAINING
If you are suffering from emotional pain or relationship problems in any area of your life, I can help you. You may feel stuck and out of options, but you don't have to live with your pain for the rest of your life. As a highly trained therapist with many years of experience, I will create a safe, private and comfortable environment where a meaningful and effective therapeutic process can develop. Together we will explore the causes of your pain and work toward not only relief of pain, but greater happiness and fulfillment in your life.
I specialize in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with adolescents and adults and I am an advanced candidate in adult psychoyanalysis at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. I use my training, experience, and empathy to help you bcome happier and more satisfied with your life and your relationships, to be free of inner demons and unsatisfying patterns in life.
My focus is on helping you understand yourself and how your mind works. Together we will work to identify patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that cause you pain or limit you and to create new and more fulfilling ways of feeling, thinking and behaving. I also provide clinical supervision, including for social work licensing.
With advanced training in psychoanalysis as well as a degre in clinical social work I am uniquely qualified to help you understand the complex interplay of your inner life, your current and past relationships, and your current and past environments, and how these factors contribute to the problems you are dealing with now. I believe that many factors in our childhoods contribute to who we are as adults, to our vulnerabilities aas well as to our strenghts. Some of these factors include our relationships with parents and other important adults, traumas and losses we may have experienced, a stable home and one or more loving adults who were tuned in to us. As children and throughout our lives we do the best we can to cope and to survive, to allow ourselves to love and to enjoy life. Sometimes, at a certain point in our life the ways we have developed to cope no longer work very well.
You may feel that you are stuck in patterns of behavior that go nowhere and that limit you. You may experience the same frustrating patterns over and over again in relationships and in work. One way to look at the goal of therapy is to free you from these frustrating patterns of emotions and behavior so that you have more options and choices in life. Together we will understand the purpose these patterns have served you, and you will have the opportunity to develop more fufilling ways of dealing with the challenges of life.
Some people come to therapy once a week, some come several times per week, depending on their needs and their desires. As we go along we will discuss what would work best for you.
My office is located in a tranquil spot two blocks from downtown Royal Oak. The grounds are attractively landscaped, and my private office is warm and comfortable. I enjoy creating a space where you can feel safe to discuss what's on your mind in the security of a confidential and private relationship.
