About My Practice

Dr. Hewlett provides psychoanalysis, psychodynamic psychotherapy and counseling for adults and adolescent individuals.  While medication, short-term therapy can target symptoms and provide some short term relief. Studies have found that psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy provides a more lasting benefit and that improvement continues after treatment ends. A psychodynamic/psychoanalytic approach is based on the observation that individuals are often unaware of the factors that determine their emotions and behavior. Treatment seeks to uncover unconscious motivations and to find the past conflicts causing current emotional problems.

Dr. Hewlett is a psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Newport Beach. She has her doctorate in clinical psychology and completed psychoanalytic training at the New Center for Psychoanalysis.  Current professional activities include - conducting forensic evaluations for the Superior Court of California and Expert Review for the Board of Psychology.  Affiliations are – member of the teaching faculty of the New Center of Psychoanalysis, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychoanalytic Association and the International Psychoanalytic Association.
