About my practice
In my practice I see a wide variety of people and tailor my approach to each individual's needs. My work ranges from brief therapy to longer term, intensive psychoanalysis. I see therapy as a relationship seeking to develop understanding and create change. My job is to listen for both what is said and not said and bring our attention to emerging feelings, connections and insights. Your job is to be open and honest about yourself. Although successful therapy can be uncomfortable as painful experiences are explored, I strive to maintain the right balance of support and challenge. Throughout the process I maintain a respectful, professional, and caring attitude.
Experience and Training
I have been in private practice for over 25 years working with individuals and couples. I also have experience in community mental health and was the Director of the Counseling Service at the California College of Arts for over a decade. After training as a clinical psychologist I completed psychoanalytic training, which is the most intensive training a therapist can have. This training included advanced courses, personal psychoanalysis and extensive supervision of my own work. Currently I teach in professional training programs and supervise mental health interns. Participating in study groups and continuing professional education helps me maintain and enhance my skills. I also participate in clinical research through the Project Group on Clinical Observation of the International Psychoanalytic Association.
